Dr. Chris Peterson, the late University of Michigan psychologist and a founder of positive psychology, once described resilience as the “ability to struggle well.” Resilience doesn’t mean that we don’t feel pain, disappointment, hardship, or immediately bounce back from a setback. Rather, resilience is often dependent on struggle to provide us the opportunity to embrace our life lessons, rely on one another, and seek new ways to find meaning and even growth in our challenges.
